LaLiga shares technological and broadcast expertise with Cameroonian authorities and broadcasters ahead of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations

A three-day series of workshops held in Madrid and Barcelona saw LaLiga discuss all facets of the match broadcast production process with the Cameroonian Ministry of Communication and broadcaster Cameroon Radio Television.

LaLiga has held a three-day series of workshops in Spain with the Cameroon Ministry of Communication (MINCOM), Cameroon Radio Television (CRTV) and the Organising Committee of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (COCAN) with the aim of furthering the development of audio-visual and broadcast production in the country ahead of next year’s tournament.

The workshops, which took place at the Santiago Bernabeu and Wanda Metropolitano stadiums in Madrid and the RCDE Stadium in Barcelona, also featured visits to LaLiga broadcast partner Mediapro’s headquarters in both Barcelona and Getafe on the outskirts of the capital. In attendance were Didier Kaba, MINCOM’s Director of Communication Engineering; CRTV’s Production Chief Robert Ekulole along with producers Josephine Talla, Lamsikreo Mboulga and Jeremie Bountchebe; as well as Marcelle Denise Ambomo, COCAN’s Director of Stadium Access.

The workshops saw LaLiga advise both MINCOM and CRTV on all facets of match broadcast production, including how many and what kind of cameras to position around the stadium along with necessary technical specifications; TV, audio signal and hardware requirements; and the manpower needed for the production team.

Also discussed was how best to work with accredited media and management of press zones and flash interviews as well as international broadcasters. In addition, LaLiga also advised COCAN on stadium access management, accreditations and the use of turnstiles.

“Our visit to Spain has given us the opportunity to create a unique working relationship between LaLiga and CRTV. LaLiga is the best football competition in the world and has a huge TV audience thanks to its technology and broadcast expertise. It’s this expertise that we want to take on and learn from for our own international broadcasts of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.”

“The broadcast production of the Africa Cup of Nations is without doubt one of the biggest challenges facing Cameroon as CAF’s [African Football Confederation] demands grow year after year,” said LaLiga President Javier Tebas on the collaboration. “LaLiga has such a large audience globally thanks in no small part to the quality of our television product and it’s an honour for us to be able to share our knowledge, perspective and experience with MINCOM and CRTV.”

Dider Kaba, MINCOM’s Director of Communication Engineering, added: “Our visit to Spain has given us the opportunity to create a unique working relationship between LaLiga and CRTV. LaLiga is the best football competition in the world and has a huge TV audience thanks to its technology and broadcast expertise. It’s this expertise that we want to take on and learn from for our own international broadcasts of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.”

These workshops represent a significant step forward for Cameroonian football in terms of broadcast production and further collaborations and exchanges with LaLiga are expected in the future.

They are also the latest in a growing series of ties between LaLiga and the African continent as whole, with collaborations with Cameroon’s professional football league (LFPC), the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) and the South African Football Association (SAFA) having been confirmed in recent months.
